Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to FOURTH grade at Elon Park Elementary School! My name is Lisa Maples and I am thrilled to be your teacher this year. I am excited to meet you and discover your unique qualities as we build a community of learners in our classroom. I am confident that we will learn a lot and create fun memories this year.

In our fourth grade class, students will be writing personal narratives and persuasive pieces, reading novels, strengthen math problem solving sills, investigate science concepts, study the history of North Carolina, and integrate technology into all aspects of our learning. With your active participation, we will have an exciting journey. You can learn more about our classroom by visiting this class webpage.

I am sure that you are curious about your teacher. My name is Lisa Maples. I have been married for fifteen years to a veterinarian, Dr. Gene Maples. We have lived in Charlotte for 11 years and just recently, my husband became the owner of Southend Veterinary Clinic. We have two children, Hannah and Grace. Hannah is ten and is in the Fifth Grade at Elon Park Elementary. Grace is six years old and is in the First Grade at Elon Park too. I have taught third and fourth grade in North Carolina for nineteen years in Greensboro, Raleigh, and Charlotte. For the last five years, I have taught Fourth Grade at Elon Park Elementary. My B.S. in Elementary Education and Master’s Degree in Education were earned at UNC-Greensboro. I am also a National Board Certified Teacher. Outside of school, I enjoy playing piano, scrapbooking, walking, participating in church activities and spending time with my family. Teaching children is extremely rewarding for me because I affect their futures while getting to watch their daily growth and see their beautiful, smiling faces.

During the first full week of school, I will send home information about our curriculum, discipline plan, schedule, classroom procedures and homework. I want you to feel connected and comfortable in our classroom community. We will ensure the success of our children by teaming together.

I will show your child how to organize his or her binder and desk on the first day of school which is Monday, August 27. You can arrive at 8:15, but the tardy bell will ring at 8:45. We’ll start dismissal at 3:40. Please be sure your child knows how he or she will be getting home daily, especially on the first day of school if it will be different from the rest of the school year. Your child should bring the Bus Card that was mailed to you last week. If you did not receive one, please be sure that your child knows if he or she is to be a car rider or a bus rider on Day 1.

Your child should bring a healthful Snack to school each day to eat mid morning because our Lunch time is 12:50 - 1:15. Parents are not allowed to eat in the Cafeteria during the first three weeks of school.

Teaching children is extremely rewarding for me because I affect children's futures while getting to watch their daily growth and see their beautiful, smiling faces! I am dedicated to helping your child be successful in all areas. I can’t wait to get started with the BEST school year ever!
